Self Catering Guest House Berwick Composers At Woodland

Composers at WoodlandThe site of the 4 luxury 5 star self catering holiday cottages was part of the old Scremerston colliery which closed in the mid 1900’s. As a village, only 2 miles from Berwick Upon Tweed, it was an important employer to many people of the community. When the colliery building was sold it re-opened as a service garage for cars and agricultural vehicles.

InteriorFollowing re-routing of the A1, the once busy road at“Woodlands” reverted to a minor access road to the local Cocklawburn Beach and returned the area to a peaceful and tranquil location, surrounded mainly by woods and farm fields. The 100 year old old outbuildings now stood empty, used mainly as a store rooms.

Demolition In September 2004 we purchased the site, continued developing the estate and obtained planning permission to build a new full timber office and 4 musical themed holiday properties. In November 2005, the old outbuildings were removed and so began the process of creating the foundations for the 4 new holiday properties. On 15th April 2006 we opened for business as "Composers at Woodlands.

New FoundationsEach property pays homage to well known composers, namely Elgar, Vivaldi, Bernstein and Chopin, all given a different feel through the subtle use of materials, colours, decoration, fixtures, fittings and furnishing.
